"Morally Responsible"

"I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. "

Political Language

"Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind."

Waltzing's for Dreamers

written by Richard Thompson
sung by Edwina Hayes

Richard Thompson has a beautiful recording of this on you tube as well

Oh play me a blue song and fade down the light
I'm sad as a proud man can be sad tonight
Just let me dream on, oh just let me sway
While the sweet violins and the saxophones play
And Miss, you don't know me, but can't we pretend
That we care for each other, till the band reach the end

One step for aching, and two steps for breaking
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love
One step for sighing and two steps for crying
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love

Now they say love's for gamblers, oh the pendulum swings
I bet hard on love and I lost everything
So don't send me home now, put a shot in my arm
And we'll drink out old memories and we'll drink in the dawn
And Mr Bandleader won't you play one more time
For I've good folding money in this pocket of mine

Oh, one step for aching, two steps for breaking
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love
One step for sighing, and two steps for crying
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love

Oh Miss, you don't know me, but can't we pretend
That we care for each other, till the band reach the end

Oh, one step for aching, two steps for breaking
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love
One step for sighing, two steps for crying
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love

The Pretender - Jackson Browne

I felt this way too long

"I'm going to be a happy idiot
And struggle for the legal tender
Where the ads take aim and lay their claim
To the heart and the soul of the spender
And believe in whatever may lie
In those things that money can buy
Though true love could have been a contender
Are you there?
Say a prayer for the Pretender
Who started out so young and strong
Only to surrender"

Ducks in a Row

On the last Saturday of April 2012 about 10 in the morning, I saw this family of ducks crossing Main Ave. There was the leader and 10 followers as they crossed Main then down Ninth and down Phillips to Eighth and then looked for a place to get to the river. Some had trouble with the curbs but followed. Here are some pictures I took at the last giant step of that journey.

In blind faith they walk off the cliff

and they land near the broken glass and empty goose eggs and struggle to get to their feet

the last two while the others wait
and now there are nine
and now this portion of the journey is over and for them blind trust worked.

This story began long ago.

First let’s dispel some ideas.

1.       I have not won the lottery, not yet.
2.       As far as I know I am as healthy as I was 10 years ago, just 10 years older.
3.       I do have a new job, Me.

Also if you are reading this to hear me complain about people or the job or the company it isn’t going to happen, not that I love everyone or everything about my years there, but a complaint without action is just “phatic” conversation.

As you go through life you make plans and have dreams some attainable and some outrageous.  As you proceed through that life decades become years and years become months and months weeks and then days.  Along the way you alter the dreams and plans based on where you are, what you can do, what you have done, and what plans others have for you. When the timeline of your dreams and plans intersects the timeline of your life you need to act. That point is different for each of us.

There was a training I had years ago dealing with “Risk and Reward” and from school and business the idea of a “Cost/Benefit” analysis. I reached the point where the rewards and benefits were no longer there. I left on my wall a flip switch given to me by the company a long time ago. It is an on/off switch on a block of wood and the words “You Control the End Result”.  I don’t know if that switch should be in the on or off position.

I did not leave to hurt any of you or the company and if my leaving has caused you more work I must say sorry but, bottom line, each of us needs to control our destiny. I will, as in the words of the old country song “things sure do look different in the cold cold morning light”, question myself but when I roll out of that bed and my feet touch the cold linoleum floor I will do a quick “cost/benefit” analysis and decide whether or not to go back to sleep.

For those of you mad or disappointed with me for my manner of leaving, I remember reading “the two hardest words to say are the first hello and the last goodbye” so
Later......
See you around.....

Concealed Carry

July 22, 2012  the theater shootings in Aurora,  Colorado.  On July 25th,  I saw this.  Appropriate? Not appropriate? I have no answer but we know where they stand.  By the way,  it was gone 2 days later.

Hot Harley Nights 2012

I tried to capture everyone in the parade but my memory card was too small and my technique was a little off.  Here however is the link to what I did capture. Enjoy and share it if you like. I also have this link in the links to the right of this page as well as those from 2011.
